Pitcher Sutton Makes Commitment to Pierce

D.J. Sutton, an All-Southern Section 5-A Division pitcher, said Friday that he will attend Pierce College.
Brahma Coach Bob Lofrano, burned in the past by players who had committed to his school then changed their minds, expressed cautious optimism over Sutton’s decision.
“If that’s what he said, I hope he sticks to that in the next two months,” Lofrano said. “I remember kids in August saying they were coming to Pierce, and then they would end up at USC or seven another JC.”
Sutton was 10-1 with an 0.72 earned-run average this past season, leading Beverly Hills High to the Bay League title. Sutton’s only loss came to Katella, 2-1, in a first-round playoff game.
The Dodgers took the 6-foot-1, 150-pound Sutton in the recent amateur draft.
