Local Winners of Builders’ Design Awards

Here is a list of the grand and special Gold Nugget awards presented Wednesday for Orange County projects:
* Best detached home on a small lot, and best single-family home under 1,500 square feet: The Promenade by J.M. Peters Co. Dorius Architects, Corona del Mar, designer; Robert Bein, William Frost & Associates, Irvine, land planner.
* Best attached residential project and best condo or town home under 1,200 square feet: Corte Villa by RecreActions Group of Cos., Newport Beach, builder. McLarand, Vasquez & Partners Inc., of Costa Mesa, architect; the Irvine Co., developer.
* Special design award: Ruby’s Diner, Laguna Beach. Mark Singer, Laguna Beach, architect; C. T. DeCinces Construction, Van Nuys, builder.
* Best custom home under 4,500 square feet: The Emerald Bay House, Laguna Beach. A 4,493-square-foot private residence. McLarand, Vasquez & Partners Inc., designer; and Bualda Construction Co., builder.
* Best affordable attached housing development: Tijeras Creek Villas, Rancho Santa Margarita. Architects Orange, designer; San Juan Group, of Rancho Santa Margarita, builder.
* Best small-lot single-family detached home, 1,500 to 2,000 square feet. Bramalea California Inc. of Irvine won for its Beverly Court design in Foothill Ranch, which placed a 1,695-square-foot home on a 3,600-square-foot lot. The Berkus Group, Irvine, architect; Morse Consulting Group, Irvine, land planner.
* Best small-lot single-family detached home over 2,500 square feet: Urban West Communities for a 2,588-square-foot home on a 2,875-square-foot lot in its Ocean Pointe development in Huntington Beach. Richardson Nagy Martin, of Newport Beach, architect and land planner.
* Best single-family detached home over 3,000 square feet: Newport Beach-based Baldwin Co. for a 4,857-square-foot Mediterranean mansion in the Summit of Anaheim Hills development. Lorimer-Case, San Diego, architect; Church Engineering, Irvine, land planner.
* Best condo or attached home, 1,600 to 2,000 square feet: Donald L. Bren Co., builder and developer of an 1,850-square-foot townhouse in the Corte Villa development in Tustin Ranch. Shleppey Hezmalhalch Associates Inc., Irvine, architect and land planner.
