MOORPARK : Schools Restrict Hats Over Gang Colors
- Share via
No hats will be allowed at Chaparral Middle School in Moorpark, and only official school hats will be permitted at Moorpark High School next year in an effort to keep gang headgear off campus, school officials said.
Moorpark High students will be allowed to wear only the official school cap sold at the student store, Principal Cary Dritz told Moorpark school board members Tuesday night.
Last November, the school board voted to give each school the authority to regulate dress. Dritz had imposed a dress code banning clothing associated with gangs, including black, dark blue, red and Los Angeles Raiders caps.
Moorpark High School officials, parents and students reviewed the policy and decided it would be easier to ban all hats except the school cap.
