Boris Yeltsin’s Demands

<i> A defiant Russian President Boris N. Yeltsin called for a general strike to protest the overthrow of Mikhail S. Gorbachev. Yeltsin also demanded that:</i>
Leaders of the Russian Federation be allowed to meet with Gorbachev and that the ousted leader be examined by international doctors within three days.
If healthy, Gorbachev should be allowed to resume his post as president.
All restrictions placed on the media be dropped.
The state of emergency be lifted in Russia when its legislature meets starting today.
All troops be returned to their bases.
Telephone lines and other communications be restored to the Russian government headquarters.
Yeltsin be allowed to work at his office in the Kremlin.
