INS and Police Cooperation
Professor Romero rightly condemns “sweep raids” by the INS of neighborhoods largely populated by people of Latino descent. To do so surely runs the risk of illegal search and seizure and racism.
On the other hand, Romero wants no cooperation between the INS and other government agencies, such as the police, in identifying those who are breaking our immigration laws. It would appear, therefore, that she has a hidden agenda in her complaints about the INS. She would handicap efforts to detect illegal aliens, it seems, to the point that their whereabouts could not be detected. In effect, this would nullify our immigration legislation.
