Harris Semiconductor Cuts Jobs: The Harris Corp. division said a worldwide semiconductor glut has forced it to cut 2,000 jobs in a move to save the company $70 million each year. The division will lose 900 jobs in the United States and 1,100 overseas out of a work force of more than 11,000 as it cuts management levels and centralizes some functions, the company said. Employees will get severance benefits based on length of service and outplacement help, paid for as part of the Melbourne, Fla.-based firm’s one-time restructuring charge of $115 million.
