Readers Go Dancing With Braves, Dodgers, Dodger Dogs and More

Two things do I have to say to Mike Downey about his Sept. 18 column ridiculing the Atlanta Braves.
One, while chastising the Atlanta fans for making fun of Americans Indians, you refer to this weekend’s series as “Dancing With Braves,” obviously ridiculing Indian names, and two, the reason the Braves are so popular these days is because they so much resemble the Dodgers of days past: young players nurtured through a solid farm system with a couple of seasoned veterans sprinkled in.
The reason Atlantans seem to remember Darryl Strawberry’s name is because he and the rest of his teammates were somewhere else last year.
Yes, you can buy a championship (George Steinbrenner proved it, Gene Autry could not) but as enthusiastic Braves fans are showing, the old-fashioned way is much more fun.
