Buena 27, Simi Valley 20--Sophomore running back George Keiaho scored his third touchdown on a 10-yard run with 1:14 to play to break a 20-20 tie and give the visiting Bulldogs (1-1) a victory. Keiaho’s run capped a 10-play, 80-yard drive.
Keiaho’s heroics overshadowed the efforts of Pioneer wide receiver Dave Romines and kicker Steve Sabbe. Romines caught four passes for 168 yards, including touchdowns of 76 and 50 yards from Eric Bennett. Sabbe kicked field goals of 32 and 49 yards as Simi Valley (1-1) rallied from a 14-3 deficit in the first half.
Keiaho finished with 164 yards in 31 carries and scored on runs of two, 43 and 10 yards. Bulldog quarterback Matt Ertman completed 10 of 14 passes for 147 yards, including a 53-yard touchdown pass to David Furst.
Bennett passed for 214 yards but completed only 10 of 31 passes with two interceptions.
