Sled Dog Musher Faces Animal Cruelty Charges

ANCHORAGE — An Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race musher has been charged with cruelty to animals for allegedly bludgeoning to death 14 unwanted husky puppies.
The Anchorage district attorney’s office accused Frank Winkler of inflicting “severe and prolonged physical pain or suffering” on the puppies. The charge filed Friday is a misdemeanor, with each of the 14 counts carrying a maximum penalty of a year in jail.
