FATHER BOYLE

The article dealt with the work being done with gang members, but there is more to the story. Father Boyle and his parishioners (including gang members) provide vital support daily to several hundred of the homeless and desperately poor: Every day at Dolores Mission, 150 or more dinners are served. Each night, as many as 100 people are loaned blankets and allowed to sleep in the small church. There are makeshift showers and lockers--200 or more homeless men clean up each morning before looking for work (a requirement for using the facilities). This is all self-policed, and, remarkably, little trouble results.
