116-Year-Old All-Male School to Admit Women

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The board of the all-male Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has decided to end the school’s 116-year tradition and admit women, beginning in September, 1995.
Changes must be made on the campus and in the legal documents of the Terre Haute engineering school before women can be admitted, said John Titsworth, chairman of the Rose-Hulman board of managers.
Titsworth said a majority of the board’s 45 members voted for the change Thursday. He said difficulty in finding enough qualified engineering students played a part in the decision.
