From Times Staff and Wire Reports
The fiercest insect enemy of California cotton growers has resurfaced in Kern and Kings counties, agricultural officials said. About 130 pink bollworms have been found in the last two weeks in a cotton field near Buttonwillow, officials said Thursday. Other bollworm moths have been found in Shafter and near Lemoore Naval Air Station in Kings County. That’s bad news for cotton farmers since it means insects discovered last year survived the winter. Farmers are being warned to pick and plow their fields as soon as possible.
