Walnut : Forest Lawn Annexation
The City Council has agreed to pursue the annexation of Forest Lawn Memorial Park, located in unincorporated county territory north of the city, to bolster the city’s tax revenues.
At Wednesday’s meeting, the council also dropped three housing developments from its list of proposed areas to annex. A staff report indicated that the property tax revenues to be gained from the subdivisions--Covina Highlands, the Meeker Development and the Gary Miller Development--might not offset the cost of providing services to those neighborhoods.
The council will send representatives to an Oct. 23 meeting with Los Angeles County officials to request that the Forest Lawn cemetery be placed within Walnut’s “sphere of influence,” a designation required to begin the annexation process.
