Junior outside hitter Andrea Bruns put away 17 kills as the University of San Diego women’s volleyball team defeated William & Mary, 7-15, 15-7, 15-10, 15-12, in a nonconference match Monday at the USD Sports Center.
USD (11-9) has now won three of its last four matches. William & Mary fell to 12-4.
Nikki Wallace added 11 kills and nine blocks and Amy McMahon 10 kills and five blocks for USD.
UC San Diego had little trouble with visiting Chaminade, winning 15-8, 15-3, 15-9. Vikki Van Duyne and Elizabeth Tan each had six kills for the top-ranked Tritons (17-5). Chaminade fell to 1-11.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Senior Cheryl Parker set a school record with four assists as No. 3 UC San Diego shut out Cal Baptist, 6-0, in La Jolla. Parker also scored a goal, and Cindy Eddy added two for the Tritons, who improved to 9-0-1 and have outscored their opponents, 42-3. Heather Mauro had three assists for UCSD in 1989.
YACHTING
Skipper Paul Cayard, who won the America’s Cup World Championship Match Races in the spring, took both sailoff races against Larry Klein to win the Knickerbocker Cup Match Races in New York. Klein was representing the San Diego Yacht Club.
