Ventura 31, Santa Barbara 13--Derek Swafford had 114 yards and two touchdowns in 13 carries as Ventura (5-1, 3-0) stuck to its ground game at Santa Barbara High. Swafford scored on runs of six and one yard as the Cougars took a 14-0 lead with 8:24 left in the first half.

After Santa Barbara pulled within 14-7, the Cougars scored 10 unanswered points on Trevor Rumsey’s 32-yard field goal and six-yard scoring run to make the score 24-7 after three quarters.

Fullback Devon Passno carried 13 times for 73 yards and a touchdown and Rumsey, the Ventura quarterback, rushed for 49 yards as the Cougars totaled 245 yards on the ground.
