Thousand Oaks 48, Channel Islands 21--Senior tailback Cory Bowen rushed for 191 yards and three touchdowns as Thousand Oaks (5-1, 3-0) ran away from the visiting Raiders (1-5, 0-3).
Thousand Oaks scored first on a 13-yard reception by tight end Shane Graham and failed to make a two-point conversion attempt. Channel Islands answered with David Cox’s 76-yard touchdown run. Sal Lopez kicked the PAT to put the Raiders ahead, 7-6, in the first quarter.
Thousand Oaks’ Quincy Jacobs scored next for the Lancers on a 75-yard run. Cox countered with a four-yard touchdown run with 3:04 left in the half.
Thousand Oaks scored with 20 seconds remaining in the half on a three-yard run by Bowen, who also ran for the two-point conversion to put Thousand Oaks ahead, 22-14, at halftime.
Linebacker Manfred Wagner intercepted a pass and ran the ball back 26 yards to the five-yard line. Two plays later, Bowen ran in from one yard to bring the score to 28-14.
The final Channel Islands’ score came on the ensuing possession when Cox ran 60 yards.
The rest was all Thousand Oaks. Bowen scored on a 61-yard run, Jamal Nichols scored from seven yards and Erik Kraszewski scored on a two-yard run.
