Flags at all 32 stations of the Ventura County Fire Department were flown at half-mast Sunday in honor of two U.S. Forest Service firefighters who died in a plane crash Wednesday, authorities said.
John Sieglinger, 46, and Robert Shaw, 32, were flying an air tanker from the Santa Barbara Air Attack Base to a fire near Missoula, Mont., when their plane crashed in mountains south of Missoula, said Battalion Chief Jim Chestnut.
Both men were experienced pilots, Chestnut said. The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
A memorial service was held Sunday at the base.
