Japanese Fishermen Claim U.S. Concealed Data: They said the U.S. government concealed scientific data and lied about the environmental threat of drift-net fishing in the North Pacific. And an American lobbyist for the fishermen said the Bush Administration is opposing drift netting because of political pressure from Northwest fishing interests that want more of the ocean’s resources for themselves. Alan Macnow of New York, who represents the Japan Fisheries Assn., said: “There are fishermen in Alaska, Washington and Oregon who believe despite all this evidence that these Asians are taking their salmon away from them,” he said. “They want it all.” Roddy Moscoso, a spokesman for the U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service, denied the charges.
