Countywide : Free Flu Shot Offer for People Over 55
- Share via
County residents over age 55 or with chronic heart or lung conditions can get free flu shots starting Nov. 1 at various clinics.
This winter is not expected to be a dangerous flu season, but those older than 55 need annual flu shots because they are more likely to contract influenza, according to the county’s Health Care Agency.
“Flu for most people is the type of thing you get, you don’t feel well and you shake it off in several days,” said Mary Wright, project coordinator for immunization. “For others, they’re weaker already and they get the flu and it’s harder on them. It could lead them to other problems like pneumonia.”
Thousands of people die each year in America from the flu or related complications, according to health officials. The flu season usually lasts from November to April.
Last year, 60,000 county residents received free flu shots. It is expected that 70,000 shots will be given this year, Wright said.
