Alhambra : City to Join Transit Coalition

The City Council authorized spending $5,000 to join a coalition of San Gabriel Valley cities that will push for more transportation improvements in the area. The council also authorized the city to act as treasurer for the planned organization.
The $5,000 is Alhambra’s share of a two-part, $50,000 study by West Covina-based Forsythe & Associates that will determine what the valley cities’ stance should be toward the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission’s proposed 30-year plan, and how the planned San Gabriel Valley Transportation Coalition should be organized.
City Manager Kevin Murphy said representatives of 19 valley cities met Oct. 7 and unanimously agreed to recommend that their cities join the coalition.
In his written report, Murphy said he his confident that more than half of the valley’s 30 cities will join the coalition.
