We were pleased to be included in your informative Oct. 22 article (“San Diego Arts Groups Reach Out,” View). We regret, however, that no attention was given to San Diego Opera’s extraordinarily dedicated volunteers and two vital education programs that function only through their efforts.
Last year alone this company’s docents, a pillar of SDO’s outreach activities for many years, gave 255 free presentations to schools and organizations throughout San Diego County. Earlier this year, in its first season of operation, our puppet program gave nearly 60 performances in schools.
These two volunteer programs’ outstanding contributions to arts education have drawn overwhelmingly enthusiastic responses from teachers, principals and students.
We applaud your concern for exposing future generations to the arts.
