Nursing Home Costs ‘Fantastic’
The letter “Dying Father Was Callously Treated” (Oct. 27) was sympathetic but missed an important point. The children who kept their dying father at home rather than send him to a nursing home were likely one of the vast majority of folks who just can’t afford the fantastic costs of nursing homes.
The latest costs according to the Health Insurance Assn. of America are $25,000 to $50,000 per year for nursing home care. How many Americans have this kind of money? Something must be done about this. Insurance purchased at an early date is relatively inexpensive, but how many are aware of this? Purchased later it is awfully expensive.
