HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Strong Defense Helps Glendale Stay Unbeaten in Pacific League
- Share via
Three players stood out on both sides of the ball for Glendale High on Saturday night, but the sack was the Dynamiters’ biggest weapon in a 20-6 Pacific League win over Pasadena at La Canada High.
Blitzing repeatedly, Glendale (7-1, 3-0 in league play) recorded seven sacks, dumping Pasadena quarterback Kenny Davis for 56 yards in losses.
When Davis was able to unload the ball before being unloaded upon, he had difficulty finding an open receiver. Glendale’s Mike Wright, Pathon Rucker and Max Ocon each made interceptions to snuff Pasadena drives.
The trio, coincidentally, also scored the Dynamiters’ three touchdowns.
Rucker carried 17 times for a game-high 90 yards, including a six-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that closed out the scoring. Quarterback Nathan Callister hit Wright with a 75-yard pass for a touchdown late in the first quarter.
Midway through the second quarter, Callister turned a broken play into a 17-yard touchdown pass to tight end Ocon, who broke two tackles inside the five-yard line before tumbling into the end zone to give Glendale a 12-6 lead.
Pasadena is 2-4-1, 1-1-1.
