Roy Hornaday Jr. took the lead with eight laps remaining and went on to win the crash-filled Goodwrench 300 at Phoenix International Raceway. Danny Crafton was second in the 186-lap race on the one-mile oval, followed by NASCAR Winston Cup driver Ken Schrader and Rick Carelli, whose fourth-place finish gave him the NASCAR Southwest Tour season championship.
