Dockweiler State Beach Reopened After Spill

Authorities reopened all but a 200-yard stretch of Dockweiler State Beach on Friday after seawater tests turned up no signs of contamination from a sewage spill, officials said.
The spill, which followed the rupture Thursday of a major sewer line leading to the Hyperion treatment plant in Playa del Rey, sent 5,000 gallons of raw sewage into a storm drain that empties into Santa Monica Bay. Evidence of the spill remained on Friday as county workers prepare to slide a metal cap over the opening in the broken pipe.
Signs were posted warning beach-goers of possible contamination.
County health officials said 100 yards on each side of Imperial Highway will remain closed through the weekend as a precaution.
