MOORPARK : Wind Snaps Wire, Knocks Out Power
- Share via
Strong winds snapped a power line in downtown Moorpark early Friday, causing a small explosion and power outage that affected several thousand residents and business owners, officials said.
The incident occurred about 10:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Moorpark Avenue, said Denis Miller, a county fire dispatcher. No injuries were reported.
Winds ripped the high-voltage power line from its pole and blew it onto a garage rooftop, setting off a fire and a minor blast, Miller said. About a dozen firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within minutes.
Miller said there was $19,000 worth of damage to the structure and its contents.
A Southern California Edison official said several thousand customers were without power for about 20 minutes.
