CERRITOS — Los Alamitos High School defeated Burbank, 31-0, in a Division III first-round playoff game in front of 1,500 Friday night at Gahr High School.
The unseeded Griffins (9-2), the Empire League’s second-place team, will play Hawthorne, a 27-17 winner over St. Paul Friday, in the next round.
Led by quarterback Tim Carey, Los Alamitos scored at least once in each quarter. Carey, a 6-foot-4 junior who passed for 1,643 yards during the regular season, completed 10 of 23 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns.
Bryan Kolasa made every point-after attempt as well as a 27-yard field goal in the first quarter.
Junior Marchant Wright led all rushers with 63 yards in 16 carries and scored from three yards out in the second quarter.
Burbank (6-5) did not come within 20 yards of the goal line all night. The closest the Bulldogs came was in the fourth quarter, when Rob Metz caught a 30-yard pass from quarterback Trevor Dawson and reached the 25. But the Bulldogs fumbled on the next play.
