In other first-round Division I games:
Canyon 35, Santa Ana 13--Canyon, which had to forfeit two nonleague games earlier in the day for use of an ineligible player, scored a decisive victory at Santa Ana Stadium.
Canyon (6-5 after the forfeits) will face Eisenhower, No. 1 ranked nationally, in the second round.
Three touchdown passes and a five-yard scoring run by Canyon quarterback Chad Engbrecht helped the Cowboys build a 28-7 halftime lead. Engbrecht completed six consecutive passes at one point in the half and was eight of 10 for 151 yards in the first 24 minutes but completed none of six in the second half.
