Thousand Oaks 39, San Marcos 14--Host Thousand Oaks (10-1) took advantage of two turnovers by San Marcos (5-6) in the second quarter to break the game open.
Junior linebacker Kevin Krim intercepted a pass and returned it to the Royals’ 41-yard line to set up a scoring run by fullback Quincy Jacobs on the next play. On the ensuing kickoff, Matt Elam recovered a fumble on the Royals’ 32-yard line. Cory Bowen scored from one yard, completing a six-play drive that gave the Lancers a 19-7 lead at the half.
Bowen (84 yards in 15 carries) had opened the scoring with a 25-yard run in the first quarter. The Lancers used up 7:37 early in the second half, marching 74 yards in 13 plays. Jacobs, who rushed for 125 yards in 17 carries, scored the first of his two touchdowns on a nine-yard run.
Running back Huy Trinh gained 207 yards in 37 carries and scored both San Marcos touchdowns. Lancer quarterback Ernie Foli completed five of eight passes for 65 yards and one touchdown.
Thousand Oaks plays Dominguez next week.
