NBC to Unveil Alternative to Saturday Cartoons: NBC executives are expected to unveil alternative programming to replace low-rated Saturday morning cartoons at a meeting with affiliates in Palm Springs next week. Network executives said NBC News is now readying several “informational”-type programs to replace cartoons, which have been attracting smaller audiences in recent years because of increased competition from independents, cable and Fox. Several NBC affiliates, including KING-TV in Seattle, have already dropped the network’s Saturday morning cartoons in favor of local news programs.
