Airbus to Scale Back Production: Airbus Industrie said it will cut production by 11 aircraft over the next two years, a sign that another big plane manufacturer is feeling the effects of the recession on the airline industry. Chief Executive Jean Pierson said the European consortium will reduce production of its wide-bodied A300 and A310 jets from 44 next year to 40 in 1993. Production of its smaller A320 craft will be cut from 110 next year to 103. The consortium is the last of the three big aircraft manufacturers to announce production cutbacks amid the worldwide airline slump. Airlines have been hit by rising costs and declining ridership for a year now, prompting them to ask for slowdowns in the delivery of new planes.
