An 21-year-old inmate of the California Youth Authority, who was convicted of attempted murder in 1985, walked away from a work crew near Point Mugu State Park Tuesday, authorities said.
Twenty-two staff members, the California Highway Patrol and Ventura County sheriff’s deputies searched unsuccessfully for Ernest Ricks, Lt. Jonnie Lisman said.
Ricks, who is black and 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds, was committed to the program in 1985 by the Los Angeles County Juvenile Court on charges of attempted murder, robbery and great bodily injury, Lisman said.
He was paroled in 1989, but was returned to the program in March for violating parole by manufacturing PCP, known as angel dust, Lisman said.
