QUEUING UP: Drained by a year of recession, store owners will be putting fewer salesclerks behind the counters this holiday season. . . . There were 217,900 retail workers in Orange County as of October, down 1.3% from 220,700 last year, according to state figures. . . . Employers say they are hiring fewer temporary workers for the holidays as well. “Labor is something they look at first” when deciding where to pare costs, says Donald B. Murray, a retail analyst for Deloitte & Touche in Costa Mesa.
