Aztec Women Top Cal Poly Pomona

The San Diego State women’s basketball team pushed over Cal Poly Pomona, 72-49, Tuesday night at Peterson Gym and improved to 4-1.
SDSU dominated the boards, pulling down 53 rebounds to Cal Poly’s 32. Michelle Suman led the Aztecs with 11 rebounds and teammate Christina Murgia grabbed 10 more.
Kieishsha Garnes was one of four Aztecs to score in double figures; she had 15 points. The others were: Falisha Wright, 13; Michelle Miles, 12; and Murgia, 10.
Cal Poly fell to 4-2.
AUTO RACING
The Camel Grand Prix of San Diego auto race will continue at the Del Mar Fairgrounds for at least another five years after the eight-member board of directors of the 22nd Agricultural District Assn. voted unanimously to extend a contract with race operators. The next race is scheduled Oct. 9-11, 1992, and the contract runs through 1996.
HALL OF FAME
Art Powell, who played in three football leagues during a 12-year career, will be inducted into the Breitbard Hall of Fame, the San Diego Hall of Champions announced.
Powell learned the game on the sandlots in his Logan Heights neighborhood.
Powell began his pro career at the age of 20 in the Canadian Football League. He later moved on to the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League before shifting to the upstart American Football League and signing with the New York Titans in 1960 and leading that league with 14 touchdown catches.
He finished his career with the Oakland Raiders.
