Mark Trakh, Brea-Olinda’s highly successful girls’ basketball coach, got some unexpected gifts after gaining his 300th career victory Saturday night in the Ladycats’ 61-30 victory over Gahr.
Tom Pryor, the opposing coach, presented Trakh with a hand-carved Ladycat clock, and the Brea-Olinda boosters gave him a engraved watch.
Trakh, with a career record of 300-28 going into tonight’s game against Glendale in the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions, became only the fourth girls’ basketball coach in the state to achieve 300 victories.
Trakh follows Buena’s Joe Vaughn, Pt. Loma’s Lee Trepanier and Pryor in the 300-victory club. In his 12th season, Trakh reached the figure quicker than any coach in the state.
Brea-Olinda is preparing for its toughest week of the season with possible showdowns against Thousand Oaks Friday, Los Angeles Washington Saturday and the nation’s top-ranked team, Peninsula, Monday if the Ladycats are successful in the Tournament of Champions.
