Loveland to Attend Okla. State

Palomar College quarterback Andy Loveland will take his snaps next season in the Big Eight Conference after signing a national letter of intent to play at Oklahoma State.

Loveland, the nation’s leading passer, led Palomar to a 10-1 record this season; the Comets were named co-national champions with Northeastern Oklahoma by J.C. Grid-Wire.

“The stage is set for me there,” Loveland said of OSU. “They’re in a great conference, they need a quarterback and they’re hungry to win. They’re coming off probation and they have bowl hopes.

“I liked the coaching staff, the town, the people, the facilities; everything was advantageous for me.”

Loveland, an option quarterback at San Pasqual High school, spent 1 1/2 years at Colorado State before leaving. He went to Palomar where, under Coach Tom Craft and a focused off-season training schedule, he learned the passing game.

According to J.C. Grid-Wire, Loveland led the nation in four passing categories: attempts (405), completions (243), yards (3,227) and touchdowns (29). He threw eight interceptions. He also led Palomar to the state’s No. 1 ranking, completing 33 of 53 passes for 465 yards and five touchdowns in a 37-24 Elks Bowl victory over Chabot.

Loveland still has two years of eligibility remaining. He signed with OSU Thursday night.
