Denis Savard has started slowly this season for the Adams Division-leading Montreal Canadiens.
But Savard, who has scored more than 100 points five times in his career, provided two second-period goals Sunday night in the Canadiens’ 3-2 victory over the second-place Boston Bruins at Montreal.
Savard’s 10th and 11th goals broke a tie and the Canadiens held on for their fifth consecutive home victory and seventh win in nine games.
Jean-Jacques Daigneault also scored for the Canadiens.
Vancouver 6, Quebec 6--Greg Paslawski and Herb Raglan scored during a 21-second span in the third period to give the Nordiques the tie at Vancouver.
The Nordiques, who were 0-for-5 on power plays, are 0-13-4 on the road, the only NHL team without a road win.
Trevor Linden had two goals and three assists and Geoff Courtnall had a goal and four assists for the Canucks, who lead the Smythe Division with a 21-11-4 record.
Nordique goalie Ron Tugnutt stopped 28 shots, including all four that he faced in overtime.
Philadelphia 4, Washington 3--Brad Jones scored on a rebound 1:10 into overtime at Philadelphia, giving the Flyers their eighth victory in nine games.
The Flyers’ victory over the Patrick Division-leading Capitals gave Philadelphia its first three-game win streak of the season.
Jones picked up a rebound and stuffed the puck between the post and Washington goalie Don Beaupre.
Chicago 5, St. Louis 2--Goaltender Ed Belfour extended his home unbeaten streak to nine games as the Blackhawks used a three-goal second period for the victory at Chicago.
Belfour, who made 16 saves, is 8-0-1 at home since ending his holdout Oct. 25. He has not been beaten at home (12-0-1) in the regular season since last March 6 against Montreal.
The Blackhawks took 44 shots--including Michel Goulet’s 496th career goal with 4:50 remaining in the second period that broke a 2-2 tie.
Brett Hull scored his NHL-leading 34th goal, extending his point streak to 12 games.
