Airlines to Raise Fares: United Airlines said it will raise virtually all domestic fares 2% beginning Jan. 3, a move that was matched by American, Northwest and Alaska airlines. The fare increase, which United entered into its reservation system on Monday, is designed to boost revenue, an airline spokesman said. Other airlines, including Delta last week, said they were studying the hike. In a separate price increase announced last week, most carriers raised the price on advance-purchase, discount fares by $20 round trip.
