Jeweler Seeks Bankruptcy Court Protection: The owner of the Southland’s seven John Crandall Jewelers stores has filed for protection from creditors under Chapter 11 of federal bankruptcy law. The firm, Buena Park-based Engagement Ring Store Inc., employs 35 people and has annual revenue of about $5 million to $6 million. Edward A. Young, president of the family business, said he is “seeking to come up with a plan to save the company.” He said the bankruptcy filing was triggered by weak sales last year, particularly during the Christmas season.
