Former professional basketball player Eugene Short was being held in Hattiesburg, Miss., on misdemeanor charges after he allegedly barricaded himself in his home with a gun. Short, a first-round draft pick of the New York Knicks in 1975, surrendered after a three-hour standoff with police. Short was charged with disorderly conduct and endangerment.
