HALLANDALE, Fla. — Triple Crown nominee West By West almost lost rider Julie Krone at the start and finished third Tuesday in a 1 1/16th-mile allowance race for 3-year-olds at Gulfstream Park.
West Vermont, making his first start in the United States, led all the way and held off After The Beep by a neck.
West By West, the odds-on favorite, was 1 1/2 lengths farther back.
