Former Dodger shortstop Alfredo Griffin, searching for a new team since November, agreed to a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. . . . The Boston Red Sox continued to wait for right-hander Roger Clemens, who isn’t planning to report to Winter Haven, Fla., until next week. Clemens is scheduled to sign baseballs tonight at the Velvet Elvis bar in Houston, which stages monthly charity events. . . . The Chicago Cubs soon will sign second baseman Ryne Sandberg to a five-year deal worth $31 million, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
