As a moderate Republican, open to considering a viable option to voting for George Bush in November, I want to thank Alexander Cockburn for enlightening me on Tsongas (“What’s Below the Bottom of the Barrel,” Column Left, Feb. 16).
Imagine--a Democrat, who is pro-business, wants to use the “peace dividend” to reduce the deficit and wants to work within the free enterprise system in designing a national health program. This is pure heresy to the consummate tax-and-spend liberalism of Cockburn.
With Clinton in decline, Tsongas may just have that refreshing change of approach this country needs.
One thing for sure, if a candidate that Cockburn supports becomes the Democratic standard-bearer, that is a clear signal to vote Republican!
