Jerry Brown asks (per Ronald Brownstein’s article, Feb. 18): “We have a pro-business Republican; why do we need a pro-business Democrat?”
Why? To get elected, Jerry. Elaine Ciulla Kamarck explained the matter very well in her Column Left (“Clinton and Tsongas: A Gift for Teaching,” Feb. 13), writing about Sen. Tom Harkin: “He’s working out of the textbook for 1932 not 1992.” The last several presidential elections should have made that message crystal-clear. You can’t sell what the public doesn’t want to buy.
