CANOGA PARK : Man Convicted of Rape, Burglary
- Share via
A Van Nuys Superior Court jury on Tuesday convicted a Canoga Park man of raping a woman three days after he was released from jail on an earlier rape arrest.
Stephen Arnold, 32, also known as James Mack, was found guilty of breaking into a Canoga Park apartment on July 12 and raping a 20-year-old woman while holding her two roommates at bay with a pellet gun.
Police, alerted by a neighbor, apprehended Arnold as he climbed out a bedroom window, according to court testimony.
Arnold had been released July 9 after prosecutors declined to prosecute him on another rape charge, saying there was insufficient evidence.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Teri Hutchison said Arnold faces up to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced April 16. He was convicted of rape, forcible oral copulation, unlawful sex by fear, burglary and attempted robbery.
