* First Interstate Bancorp has named Gary A. Schmidt senior vice president of the corporation’s worldwide advertising unit, where he will assume responsibilities for media advertising, promotions and direct-mail programs.
He leaves his former assignment as head of the Los Angeles-based bank’s retail product management group, which encompassed all deposit, credit and fee-based products.
