Church Robbers Return Money--With $4 Interest

BALTIMORE — Robbers who stole $1,400 in church collections have returned the money, along with an extra $4 and a note of sorrow, a pastor said.
“This is probably one for Ripley’s Believe It or Not,” said Father Martin F. McGeough of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. “We got some interest on our robbery.”
Three men, one with a gun, robbed church volunteers on March 15 as they took cash and checks from parishioners to a night deposit. A day later, a man went to the Roman Catholic church and handed a housekeeper two envelopes containing about $900 of the cash and checks. On March 27, a note with more cash was passed through a mail slot at the church.
The note read: “I am truly sorry for taking the money. Please forgive me. I am repaying it. Sorry.”
