PREP TRACK ROUNDUP : Gerdis Jump-Starts Mater Dei Past Santa Margarita

John Gerdis, a Mater Dei sophomore, high jumped 6 feet 2 inches to lead the host Monarchs to a 79-48 victory over Santa Margarita in an Angelus League boys’ track and field meet Thursday.
Ryan Wilkinson won both the 1,600 (4 minutes, 46.9 seconds) and 3,200 (10:16.02) for Santa Margarita.
The Monarchs are 2-2, 1-2 in league.
In Orange league boys’ track and field:
Brea-Olinda 93, Savanna 42--Chris Conrad won the discus (161-0) and the shotput (49-7) for the Wildcats (8-2, 3-0).
Valencia 108, Magnolia 25--Jose Wences (1,600, 3,200) and Kory Alexander (100, high jump) were double winners for the Tigers (3-0 in league).
In Sea View League boys’ track and field:
Newport Harbor 69, University 67--Newport Harbor made up a 20-yard deficit in the mile relay to win the race and the meet. Barney Peter won the triple jump and the pole vault for University (1-2).
Saddleback 112, Tustin 16--Charlie Davidson won the 200 (23.7), 110 high hurdles (14.4) and 300 hurdles (40.3) for Saddleback (5-0, 3-0), which won every event but the pole vault. Tustin fell to 0-5, 0-3.
Woodbridge 87, Corona del Mar 49--Greg Muniz won two sprint events and anchored the 400-meter relay team for Woodbridge (6-1, 2-1) at home. Muniz won the 200 in 22.2 and the 110 hurdles in 15.1. Woodbridge’s Gary Young won the 100 in 10.8.
In South Coast League boys’ track and field:
Irvine 79, El Toro 56--Mark Shickler won the 800 in 2:03.1 for El Toro (0-3).
Mission Viejo 70, Dana Hills 66--Ryan Crane won the 200 and the 110 hurdles with times of 22.4 and 15.3, respectively, and Ho Pak won the triple (43-1 1/2) and long (22-1) jumps for Dana Hills (3-1, 2-1).
In Sunset League boys’ track and field:
Westminster 71, Ocean View 63--Christian Moore won the 100 (11.03), 200 (22.41) and the 400 (51.6) for the Lions.
In Empire League girls’ track and field:
Esperanza 104, Loara 22--In only her second race in the event, freshman Courtney Pugmire ran the 300 hurdles in 48.3 for the Aztecs (3-0).
In Freeway League girls’ track and field:
Sonora 89, Fullerton 38--Lisa Knott won the 110 hurdles (17.1) and the 300 hurdles (47.7) for Sonora (3-0).
In Garden Grove League girls’ track and field:
Kennedy 85, La Quinta 40--Rose Chavez won two sprints and two jumping events and Christie Jones won the shotput and discus for the Fighting Irish (3-2).
In Orange league girls’ track and field:
Brea-Olinda 73, Savanna 49--Heidi Allred (100, 200) and Michelle Chabot (long jump, triple jump) were double winners for Brea-Olinda (4-5, 2-1).
Valencia 95, Magnolia 27--Mary Folino (100, 200), Teresa Vega (1,600, 3,200), Ruth Heller (high jump, triple jump) and Audreka Nelson (shot put, discus) were double winners for the Tigers (3-0 in league).
In Sea View League girls’ track and field:
Tustin 75, Saddleback 43--Jami Bickley won the 800 in 2:36 and the 3,200 in 12:6 for Tustin (1-2). Saddleback is 0-3 in league.
University 69, Newport Harbor 58--Tanja Brix won the 1,600 in 5:18.4 and the 3,200 in 11:52.8 for University (3-0).
Woodbridge 92, Corona del Mar 33--Meisha Wilson-Duval won the 100 and 200 and anchored the 400 and 1,600 relay teams to lead the Warriors (7-0, 3-0) at home.
In South Coast League girls’ track and field:
El Toro 89, Irvine 37--Bree Friego ran the 3,200 in 11:32.1, breaking Michele Buck’s school record of 11:41 set in 1981, as the host Chargers improved to 5-1, 3-0. Kelly Thomson won the long jump (15-6), triple jump (34-10), shotput (28-7 1/4) and 100 hurdles (16.3) for El Toro.
