Quartz Hill Boys’, Girls’ Track Teams Move Closer to Golden League Titles

The boys’ and girls’ track teams at Quartz Hill High took big strides toward winning Golden League titles with wins over visiting Palmdale on Thursday.
Ramon Banks, Ramon Stanton and Bryan Frazier each won two events to lead the boys (3-0, 3-0 in league play) to a 79-57 victory. Tahara Martin won three events to lead Quartz Hill to an 84-43 victory in the girls’ meet.
“Everyone did what they needed to do for us to win,” Quartz Hill boys’ Coach Don Crimin said.
Sophomore Troy Searcy, who had not competed in track before this season, ran the 400 meters for the first time Thursday and won in 49.9 seconds.
Banks won the 100 (11.1) and 200 (22.7) and led off the victorious 400-meter relay team (42.1). Frazier won the long jump (20 feet 7 3/4 inches) and triple jump (44-0) and Stanton took the 110-meter high hurdles (15.6) and the 300 intermediate hurdles (42.9).
Shannon Horn led Palmdale (3-1, 3-1) with wins in the 800 (2:02.4) and 1,600 (4:29.7).
In the girls’ meet, the Rebels (3-0, 3-0) rolled to victory behind Martin, who won the 100 (13.5), long jump (17-4) and triple jump (34-9). She also ran the third leg on the victorious 400 relay team (49.9).
Kim Nellis won both hurdles races for Palmdale.
