OJAI : City Hall to Get New Phone System

The Ojai City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to replace the single-line telephone system now used at City Hall with a more modern multi-line operation.
The city staff has “maxed out on our phones,” City Manager Andrew Belknap said. “We’re over capacity and we’re breaking down at times.”
All callers to city officials now dial one general line, 646-5581, and are transferred to the correct department.
The new system, which will cost about $28,000, will create more lines that will allow callers to dial directly into city departments, Belknap said.
Council members insisted that the new phone system be answered by a person rather than a computer-generated voice. “I, for one, really enjoy when I make a telephone call, to find a live, responsive human being on the other end,” said Councilwoman Nina Shelley.
